Aunque quedará en nuestro recuerdo. Barrie arrancó desde su campo y apareció, por el medio, sorteando rivales y regando talento, al estilo maradoniano, hasta aplicar ese devastador cambio de ritmo en la jugada, propio de los autos de la película Rápido y furioso. Tras quebrar varias cinturas, él tiró un exquisito pase a Kyle que (las dudas persisten) se fue sólo para definir. ¿Era gol? No importa, la jugada lo valió. 

Dos minutos. Ahí uno comienza a dejarse llevar por la sonoridad de la sucesión de aplausos, por las sensaciones. Eso fue fascinante. Sandy Jardine estuvo al frente de las movilizaciones, se hizo una de las caras visibles en los peores momentos recientes. Él entendió que ese era el momento de tomar las riendas. Producto de esa estirpe, llegó el primer gol, Kyle bajó de cabeza una pelota en el área para Shiels, cuando él se da vuelta todos nosotros sabíamos lo que iba a hacer, aunque los defensores todavía preguntan ¿por dónde se fue este muchacho? El tacto fino y la capacidad resolutiva del norirlandés hicieron todo. 1-0

La paradoja endémica (persistente en el tiempo) es que tenemos jugadores que desequilibran en ataque, así es ambicioso es nuestro planteo, aunque, por el contrario esto penalizan o pone de manifiesto nuestras endebles posiciones defensivas, muy particularmente en el mediocampo. Hemos sido permisivos al momento de cortar los avances. Ahí se gesta la base de este conflicto sin solución.Al jugar muy adelantados, es necesario también un esfuerzo por parte de todos los jugadores ofensivos en la fase defensiva. Por momentos, McKay o Little se ocuparon de ese rol.

En este esquema ofensivo son necesarias dos cosas: futbolistas atentos para cubrir las espaldas de sus compañeros y esos que tengan ida y vuelta, pero con trabajo y constancia, que tapen espacios, que ejerzan presión en las líneas de volantes. Son condición necesaria, más no suficientes. Hay algo también fundamental, es probablemente del orden anímico. Si tú cortas rápido una jugada y limitas la facilidad de los rivales para hacer circular la pelota, ahí tú tienes una parte del match ganado. Mantener la posición de la pelota, profundizar y no ceder forzado a un compañero es el paso siguiente. Hoy nosotros jugamos contra Elgin City, donde el margen de maniobra es mucho más amplio, pero cuando nosotros juguemos que equipos con más pesados, más fuertes y resolutivos, nosotros podríamos padecer estas falencias. 

La labor prioritaria del volante que juega por delante de la defensa es ser como un perro de presa, hostigar a los rivales, robar pelotas y cortar las líneas de pase. El otro centrocampista debe llegar al área en ataque y regresar en defensa a cerrar espacios en ayuda de su compañero de tareas. McLeod, en ese aspecto, tuvo una tarde para el olvido con algunas malas posiciones en el marcaje del contrario, atosigó, acompañó pero no llegó a romper el juego rival. Él puso mucha intención y poco acierto. El otro puntal de la defensa del mediocampo, Ian Black alternó un destacado traslado de la pelota, un tiro bien direccionado desde afuera del área con la ausencia del rol defensivo. Cuando Ian marca es fuerte, pero no es constante. 

Elgin no se resignó a su teórico papel de comparsa e hilvanó jugadas que hicieron zonas nuestras alarmas de alerta, pero nosotros sólo fuimos espectadores de esas iniciativas. Aunque los visitantes carecieron de precisión en los pases definitivos, en parte producto de su imprecisión y discontinuidad en el juego.

La lesión de Black generó una incógnita, ¿Quién va de mediocampista central? Y esta incógnita fue aún mayor cuando Super-Ally llamó a Darren Cole para ingresar. En ese aspecto, el staff técnico parece flexible, generando más alternativas válidas para determinados partidos. El elegido fue Argyriou (algo similar a Papac la temporada pasada), inquieto, siempre generoso en el esfuerzo. En un principio, algo atascado y desordenado como haciendo un reconocimiento espacial del rol, Argyriou cubrió bien los espacios del medio y estuvo bien colocado para ayudar a un compañero.

Tiro de esquina de McKay, ya un especialista de la simplicidad como norma. Con una anticipación, Kyle no tuvo que saltar sino acomodar el cuerpo para hacer que su potente cuello imprimiera a la pelota fuerza y precisión, de arriba abajo, que por su meteórica rapidez hizo inútil la estirada del arquero. 2-0.

McCoist hizo entrar a Templeton en reemplazo de Little. En su primer intento, Temps probó un tiro desde afuera del área que se fue por arriba del travesaño.  Mckay pasó a jugar por la derecha con igual eficacia que en la izquierda. Ahí continuó descubriendo espacios que él y sus compañeros supieron aprovechar. Tuvo la sociedad de Cole, cuya casi exclusiva tarea fue tirar centros en búsqueda de la cabeza de Kyle. 

Cuando todos esperábamos a Sandaza, Coisty puso en el campo a Naismith para darle algunos minutos. Él siempre supo aprovechar esos nimios espacios de tiempo. Basta estar en el momento adecuado y eso Naismith lo sabe, para encontrar una pelota oportuna con la que causar una inflexión irreparable. 3-0
