Brillant Matt McKay for Rangers!!!

McKay will at least be prepared for the demands that come with playing for either half of the Old Firm.  Brisbane will lose their star attraction for what's believed to be a $500,000 transfer fee. McKay has been highly recommended to Rangers by their former captain and Socceroos defender Craig Moore who played three seasons with the hard-working midfielder at the Roar (McKay succeeded him as team captain).  Ally also sounded out other ex-Rangers - Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson and former Roar playmaker Charlie Miller - about the 16-cap Socceroo.

'I just had the opportunity to go up and have a look at the club and obviously it's a massive club and to have interest to go there is pretty special,' Matt McKay said after visiting Rangers. 'I've been in the A-League now for six years, looking at the opportunity to go there, nothing is sorted yet, just talking at the moment. ''It's an opportunity I've never had before. I've never played in Europe before and it's something that's always enticed me and to have that opportunity is great.' 'We'll wait and see if things pan out into a move, but at the moment I'm really looking forward to this game on Wednesday.'

McKay has been the heartbeat of the Roar since the A-League kicked off in 2005 and it would be a massive loss for Brisbane. He took over the captaincy from Moore midway through the 2009-10 season and led Brisbane to a record 28-match unbeaten streak last season as they surged to the premiership and championship.

Hearts' Australian defender Ryan McGowan knows all about McKay and said: 'He is a very good player. He has broken into the Australia team and did very well at the Asian Cup. Matt plays more of an attacking role and likes to pass the ball. I'm not saying he is a Barcelona player, but he likes to play in triangles and slip people in.

Rangers have until 11pm on Wednesday, August 17 to register McKay as their one additional player for the Europa League play-off round clash with Maribor, the first leg of which takes place on August 18.

Good insight into a future Bear! Watch a little of the game Wednesday and he has a great delivery of set pieces! Only thing that worries me is, Ally is very scared, I think, to drop McCulloch or Mo Edu! With him coming in will this pave the way for Edu's exit?? I sure hope not!!
