Rangers have signed Romanian defender Dorin Goian from Palermo for around £750,000 on a three-year deal, subject to international clearance and a work permit. Goian agreed terms with the Ibrox side after the defender passed a medical in Glasgow earlier.
He was selected by Victor Piturca for the Romanian national football team in 16 November 2005 against Nigeria, thus being his first appearance in Romanian national football team. As of 13 October 2007, Goian won seventeen caps for Romania, scoring three times. The most important goal scored by him was against Netherlands.
In 2003, Goian signed with FCM Bacau and placed in 26 league games, scoring two goals. While he was playing there, Goian was called up to the Romanian national team due to his impressive league performances.
On 4 March 2005, Goian signed a five-year contract with Steaua Bucuresti. Even though he only played 4 games this season for Steaua, Goian continued to fight for a place in the first 11 and starting with the next season (2005-2006) the young center back managed to win the trust of his coach and implicitly he became one of the irreplaceable players from the team.
On 6 August 2009 U.S. Citta di Palermo ha showed interest in the central defender and and bought him with €2m. There he will meet up once again with his former coach, Walter Zenga.
