Season 2011-2012

Rangers defender Sasa Papac has signed a new one-year contract extension, the Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions have announced. The 31-year-old left-back's current deal was due to expire this summer, but now he will be part of the new regime under Ally McCoist, Smith's successor as boss, and new owner Craig Whyte.

Veteran defender David Weir has confirmed he intends to carry on playing next season even if he is not offered a new contract at Rangers. Weir, who turned 41 last week, has been a virtual ever-present for Gers this season during the club's successful defence of the SPL title.

James Beattie (left) will return to Rangers from Blackpool determined to make a mark at Ibrox.Beattie failed to score in 10 appearances for Rangers in an injury-hit first half of the season following his £1.5million summer move from Stoke - outgoing manager Walter Smith's first purchase for almost two years.

The Ibrox Disaster

New Year Bells had been ringing,
All of Scotland was singing,
The old year had died,
And the new had been born.
As the news of disaster
From Ibrox came spreading,
The news that would cause
A whole nation to mourn

66 people died

Derek Parlane, Born is the King of Ibrox Park

"Born is the King of Ibrox Park", cantaron las legiones de Light Blue sobre Derek Parlane, ídolo en los años 70, portando el jersey número 9 de los Gers. Derek Parlane (5 de mayo 1953 en Helensburgh) desde 1970 a 1980 se debió al color azul (hasta partir al Leeds United). En 300 partidos, marcó 111 goles. Ganó dos campeonatos, 3 Copas de Escocia, 2 Copas Scottish League y 1 Recopa de Europa. En 2010, fue incluido en el Hall of Fame del Glasgow Rangers. Parlane hizo su estreno en 1970 a la joven edad de 17, pero dos años más tarde fue artífice del gran triunfo europeo en la Recopa, al derrotar en semifinales al todopoderoso Bayern Munich 2-0. Bill Struth

Bill Struth (1875-1956) fue el segundo manager de la historia del Rangers Football Club, conduciendo al club durante 34 años entre 1920 y 1954, así como otros puestos en el club, incluyendo el rol de director. Ibrox Disaster

Ocurrió el 2 de enero de 1971 en el final de un Old Firm. Más de 100.000 aficionados cayeron al suelo. Después de 89 minutos de fútbol sin goles el Celtic tomó una ventaja de 0-1 y algunos seguidores del Rangers comenzaron a abandonar el estadio. Sin embargo, en los momentos finales del partido, Colin Stein anotó el empate para los Rangers. Mientras miles de espectadores cayeron al suelo por la escalera 13, parece que alguien, posiblemente llevando a un niño en los hombros, cayó, causando una cadena masiva de amontonamiento de personas
